This workshop presents a brief history of mask making and the practical building of a plaster mask. The objective is to introduce a new medium, to plan, prepare and complete a final finished decorative mask. Maximum number of participants 10.

Preparation and background
1. This is an introductory mask making class for beginners and/or more advanced artists.
2. There will be two 5 – hour sessions (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
3. Specialist materials will be provided

Session One: Intro, demonstration, planning, prepping and making the mask. Exploring ideas and materials for development of the mask.

Materials: Plaster strip, scissors, water containers.

You will be asked to bring along a pencil and paper for planning and developing ideas
An apron to protect your clothing, the work can be messy
Any reference or inspirational material

Session Two: Developing the mask through paint and/or mixed media

Materials: Gesso, Acrylic paints, mixed media
